Specialized Transportation for Students with Disabilities
Date: August 25, 2021
Effective the start of the 2021-2022 school year, all students who received specialized, door-to-door transportation as indicated in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or in their 504 Plan as a result of the restrictive nature of their presenting disabilities, must have a responsible adult at the home to meet the student at drop-off at the end of the day. Students who are not met by an adult at drop-off will be transported to the After School Child Care Center at Rebecca Johnson School and parent/guardian will be contacted.
The bus companies will no longer accept letters from parent/guardian to waive this expectation.
Should a parent have concerns or wish to discuss the contents of their student’s IEP or 504 bus transportation services, please have them contact their school Evaluation Team Leader or Deb Duncan at [email protected].

Safe Walk Routes
Recommended safe walk paths for students to all SPS schools are now posted on the district’s website and may be located by logging onto the Transportation page under Resources. A link entitled Safe Walk Routes is available and schools may be located by search. This is to provide support to you and your staff if questions arise from families inquiring what walk route their children should take to and from school. You may either direct them to our web page. Walk routes are able to be printed as well. I encourage you to take a look as well.
It is our hope you and your families will find this information helpful. Our goal is ensuring every family is aware of safe walk paths and where crossing guards are located to best ensure the safety of their children.
